London: Chelsea's England under-21 midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah has joined fellow London Premier League club Watford on a five-year deal for an undisclosed fee, the clubs said on Thursday. The 22-year-old made 15 appearances in all competitions to claim a league winner's medal and was part of England's European Championship under-21 squad that reached the semi-finals. After several loans, including helping Watford reach the Championship playoff final in 2013, Chalobah was a part of Antonio Conte's title-winning Chelsea squad last season. He has had loan spells at Nottingham Forest, Middlesbrough, Burnley, Reading and Napoli, and made 42 appearances at Watford during the 2012/13 season, scoring five goals.
Chelsea have included a buy-back clause as part of the deal which saw Nathaniel Chalobah join Watford for £5.5million. Standard sport understands that the Blues also stand to profit should the Hornets sell Chalobah elsewhere as they have negotiated a sell-on fee. "It's a very high standard at the club and the club has an amazing academy and produces really top players. You're playing for one of the best teams in Europe, they're in the Champions League and the demand is high on winning." Chelsea wanted to hand the 22-year-old a new contract but as first revealed last month, the midfielder was looking to leave after making just 15 appearances last term.
